The original 24x36 oil was exhibited at the Phippen Museum 32nd Annual Western Art Show & Sale May 27, 28, & 29, 2006 Prescott, Arizona.

The Rankin House was a stop on the underground railroad. I have painted several paintings on this site in all seasons. My favorite is this scene with snow. When I was painting it, I often looked across into Kentucky and thought about the escaping slaves and the hardships they faced crossing the icy Ohio River.
