As I was walking to my gallery, I passed by an antique shop, and saw a basket sitting on top of a white table. I asked the shop owner if I could do a painting of it. He said, "Sure!", and gave me a key to get into his shop. Wanting to put some color in the painting, I thought how nice it would look with an arrangement of orange bittersweet. It was a dry year and I had trouble finding the bittersweet. My mother told me it would be growing on a certain fence post along a rural road. After driving twenty miles to the road to locate the bittersweet I found it just like she had said. I asked the owner of the farm if I could cut some of the bittersweet for a painting. He replied,"Take it all." Hurriedly, I went back and arranged the bittersweet several different ways before deciding on the arrangement that is in the print. The original painting was a dry brush on bristol paper. I had it printed as a giclee on watercolor paper and the reproduction looks just like the original. The prints are for sale in our gallery and at the Artisan Center at Berea, Ky. The painting won ''Best Still Life'' at the Morehead Kentucky Artist Guild Show. Steve White
