While driving on a rural Kentucky back road, I noticed a farmer stripping tobacco through the window of an old stripping room. I stopped to help him strip a few stalks, and at the seem time was trying to get enough nerve up to ask him to pose for either a photo or drawing. I wanted to record how tobacco was once hand tied and put on a stick. From that first visit we became friends and often talked about how growing and selling tobacco had changed over the years. I wanted to preserve a part of tobacco farming that is slowly disappearing. The farmer,s looks reminded me of my own grandfather. Steve White
